SPRING 2010 NEWSLETTER A Happy New Year and hope you all had a lovely
Christmas. Last term was as ever a very enjoyable one and
thank you to all our parents for your help supporting or leading Junior
Church sessions, helping out with the Church Fair and Halloween Party and
taking part in All Age Worship services. Your efforts make Junior Church
truly a team effort. The term ended with some lovely Christmas
activities. Mary’s show, The Christmas Time Travellers, was a wonderful
event. Well done to all you shepherds, inn-keepers, sheep and angels and not
forgetting Mary and Joseph! The show raised £700 for St Luke’s and Love
Russia. We presented Mary (Noyes) with champagne, chocolates and flowers
after the show to thank her for all her hard work, for which she passes on
her thanks. The Children’s Crib service on Christmas Eve was
as ever a very moving start to Christmas. Thank you Alison and Jill for your
dedication and hard work. And so to the Spring term where we will be
listening to stories from Jesus’ life marking Candlemas, Lent and Mothering
Sunday and finishing with our usual walk between the two Churches on Palm
Sunday and all the events that lead up to Easter. Thank you to all of those who have volunteered
to lead sessions this term. There are still some slots available if anyone
else feels like having a go – we promise to give you as much support as you
need. Last term we started getting more involved in the All Age Worship
services, which is working well. We need older children to volunteer for
readings and intercessions and families to volunteer to assist with sidesman
duties. Please let us know if you are interested in volunteering in this way. On the social front there is a Family Beetle
Drive on Saturday 6th February, which is always a lot of fun for children
(over 6’s) and grown-ups alike. There will also be a combined social evening
and planning meeting after half term, to which everyone is welcome. Nothing stays the same forever as they say and
we feel that it is time to pass on the running of Junior Church to the next
generation. We know that so many of you are dedicated to Junior Church and
work hard supporting us, so we are confident that a few of you may want to
take on this role. If you are thinking you couldn’t possibly do the job that
we do, then that’s exactly what we thought when we took over from Alison and
Jill three years ago. We are in the process of putting together a “manual” of
what needs to be done and it really isn’t such a big job if shared between a
few people (the Barn successfully run their Junior Church with a committee of
four people). If you are interested then please talk to us or Peter. Best wishes Paula and Tracey
